FAQs

Air Pocket Shower Door

What is the AirPocket Door

The AirPocket Door is a patented pocket shower door, built into the shower wall. We use the same AirJet technology to dry out the glass inside the hidden pocket, with the push of a timer.

How long does it take to dry my glass shower door?

Typically, 5-10 minutes.

How does the water drain?

There are two methods for drainage installation. The first is a ¼” stainless/steel drain that is built into the middle of the threshold. The water from the door exits through the drain trough inside the shower. Your contractor will pour a cement threshold which the drain will be encased in. Tile as usual.

The second method involves no drain, as the threshold is open on one side.

Your method of choice just depends on the look you are wanting. See the installation manual for more detail.

Does water ever get outside of the door and onto the floor?

The water stays inside the door and shower space. The AirPocket door prevents wet floors from opening the glass door into the bathroom, or spilled water from a shower curtain.

Does it work like a traditional pocket door?

Yes. Only ours is a patented shower door system which removes all water by bringing forced air into the pocket to dry the glass quickly with the push of a timer.

How is the AirPocket space saving?

The AirPocket is a pocket door. You can have a shower in a space that might have been too tight for other door options. Each door is custom made per your dimensions and needs.

Do I have to clean the glass door?

Yes. You want to clean the door with glass cleaner during your regular shower cleaning. The AirPocket helps reduce cleaning tremendously, and the use of harsh chemicals. Most AirPocket Doors need to be cleaned lightly every month versus every day. Hard water issues across the country can affect what is left on the glass door after all the water is removed. We recommend using glass that is coated/treated.

I have heard this door will lead to my shower space being very warm and comfortable, is this true?

Yes. The door keeps all the moisture and heat in the shower space. It is the perfect addition to any steam shower and creates a steamy effect when used with regular showers.

Can I leave the door in the closed position, for an open concept design?

Yes. That is one of the reasons it was conceived, to create open space when you want and an enclosed warm space when you want.

Does this door work with a steamer?

Yes. It keeps steam in perfectly. We feel it is the best door on the market for steam shower applications.

Does the door system come with the glass?

No. The AirPocket will come with the pocket door and all plumbing needed along with the motor, timer, and relay. We will work with your local glass shop to supply the glass. The glass is not included in the cost of the AirPocket Door. Your local glass company will come and measure the door and create the glass needed and perform the glass installation. We are always available to consult and guide the glass company with installation.

What is the glass thickness?

We recommend 3/8-inch.

What size is the AirPocket Door?

The standard size AirPocket Door is 78”x 30”. Custom sizing is available for an additional cost, see your nearest Airmada Dealer, or contact us.

How big of space do I need to install the door?

The space needed for door installation is double the size of the finished opening plus 5-inches to allow for plumbing materials. Finish material thickness for the inside of the door frame needs to be considered when deciding on the size of the door.

For example, if you want a 27-inch finished opening size, you must add the thickness of your tile or stone to the final equation. If you are planning on installing 1/2-inch stone to the opening, you will have to have a 28-inch-wide door opening.  After you install your 1/2-inch stone on each side, your opening will reduce to 27-inches. If you are using a 1/4-inch mortar bed, you would have to accommodate for that as well. For this example, a 28.5-inch opening would be needed. The same math should be used for the height.

When is the AirPocket Door installed?

The AirPocket is framed in. After the door is framed in and waterproofing is wrapped around, shower surfaces can be installed in the rest of the shower, however tile on the inside of the entire door opening and on both sides of the door needs to wait until the glass is installed.

Where does the blower mount for my Air Pocket?

The blower can be placed up to 50’ away.  If you are able, it is best to install it in a mechanical room, basement closet, or finished attic space. We prefer to have the motor in a conditioned space within the home. It can be installed horizontally or vertically. The space needs to allow air intake to the motor.

How do I attach tile and or stone to the Air Pocket?

Your Air Pocket Door frame will be concealed in your wall. The door gets framed in, and the opening will be exposed stainless steel which will later be covered using slab material. Using the Schluter® KERDI waterproofing system you will attach the Schluter® KERDI fabric to the stainless steel and then your stone or tile to the Schluter® KERDI fabric. Treat the door like any other surface in your shower. The tile in the door opening (top, sides, and threshold) will be done last after the glass is installed.

How do the motor and tubing for the door get installed?

The blower will connect to SCH 40 2-inch PVC. This PVC will run to the manifold. This manifold can be moved if needed and attached to nearby framing Flexible tubing is clamped onto each manifold port and supplies air to each male adaptor for all nozzles in the pocket spine.

Is the stainless-steel pocket difficult to install?

We always recommend using a licensed contractor to install the AirPocket Door. Special simple framing is needed to accommodate the pocket. The pocket will simply screw into the framing and the rest is connecting the plumbing materials to the spine of the door. An electrician will be required to wire outlets for the blowers.

Which grade of stainless steel is used for the Air Pocket?

We use type 304 stainless steel.

Does the inside of the opening to the shower need to be made of stone or solid surface material?

We recommend that the inside of the opening is constructed of one piece per side of solid slab material. The solid material makes it much easier for the creation of the glass track and install of the opening. Slab material can be used in the shower and on outside walls if you wish. You can also paint outside walls to this solid surface line.

Using the slab install method allows for the 1/2-inch-deep slot that the door travels through, and a slot that the door rests into on the wall opposite the pocket opening. When you open the door, it is guided by this slot and rests into it. This allows for moisture to stay in the shower space, which is especially important for steam showers.

Using slab material on the inside and outside of the glass is also important for the well-being of your bathroom walls and painted surfaces. It helps protect the bathroom surfaces from water and steam.

How deep do the slots need to be in the shower opening?

We recommend at least 1/2 inch of depth for the glass to travel through on the bottom and rest against the side. The thickness of waterproofing material needs to be considered along with tile thickness, to maintain the 1/2-inch clearance.

How does the AirPocket get shipped?

The AirPocket is delivered via less than truckload freight shipping. A loading dock, forklift, or additional assistance is required to unload at the delivery site. The AirPocket is crated and can be broken down to offload from the truck manually.
